About Us

The REACH Lab, directed by Dr. Kathryn Howell, studies the pathways that lead to risk and resilience among families and children who have experienced potentially traumatic events, such as interpersonal violence and loss. Questions we ask include: What environmental, psychological, and physiological mechanisms promote resilience or reduce risk for psychiatric problems in the context of early traumatic stress? How do we design effective evidence-based interventions for children and families exposed to traumatic events, such as violence? How can we work with community stakeholders to explore the patterns that lead to adaptive and maladaptive outcomes following childhood traumatic events?
